School, sport and orange.

Okay, I'm completely neglecting my poor blog, but I promise that I will try to write more. It is not easy to manage time, so I'll try to write at least once a month! I won't write a summary of this month, because it would be boring and also because it has happened so many things that I should write all night long and honestly I care about my hours of sleep, though few.
2 months, 2 months since I arrived here. It doesn't seem real. I can say that this is home, after two months I feel that I can finally feel at home. It's still hard to think of Italy and how far it is, but come on there are still 25 degrees every day here, I can't complain!!
I wanted to dedicate this post to school in general, but specially to sports at school. Although it may be difficult to think, here school life revolves around sports, especially football.
The school spirit is great; parents, teachers and students show their support for each sport, every club and every school activity. It's a difficult concept to understand, because in Italy school is simply seen as a place of education, a building made to lock up kids of any age and fill their heads of theories and knowledge that are probably unnecessary for the future and they'll forget all at the end of high school.
A common prejudice that all ten world have about Americans schools, is that they're easier. And yes, it is easier to make good grades. The main difference is that, while in Italy we study so much theory, here we do more practical activities; such as laboratory experiences in which students can really understand how the world works. For example, we all know they how boring can be an history lesson, especially if it's all about taking notes of all events, dates and murder that men have made all over the centuries (I never liked history) Here instead I love it; every day we do different activities, activities that make me realize how it was the reality that I'm studying.
Each student is free to choose the difficulty of his classes, based on how much he wants to challenge itself or not. The school doesn't force you to study something you do not like, simply for the fact that if you don't like it you'd never study it.
Going back to the sport, for the past and present exchange students will be easier to understand what I'm talking about; the futures will understand soon; for whom it wasn't and never will be one, just try to think of a derby.
Each school has a rivalry school, a school with who will be against in every activity, from choir to sports. And I can swear to you it is great.
This Friday, there was a football game, like every Friday; the only difference is that it Ours was against the rivalry school: O'Connor; the “crush game". I have to admit I was super excited and nervous. Last year a food fight broke out, just to let you know ..
Our section was colored orange, the school's color, and the student section was completely full. Chants were screamed from one side of the stadium to another one, a unique experience that I will never forget.
Fortunately, the game was really good, we won 42-3. We can say that we have "destroyed" them or as they say here, "we've crushed them".

With this I end this post and I promise that in the next one I will talk a bit 'of food,  at the end it's almost Halloween;)
